This is an antique walnut wall mounted shaving mirror and cabinet made circa 1880. This beautiful piece is crafted in the Eastlake style, with delicate incised carvings and a hinged covered box to store shaving supplies. There is a hole on the left side that would have been used to discard old razor blades inside the wall behind the cabinet. Opposite side would have held a candle. Mirror has been replaced and attached with aluminum brackets on the back side.
The Eastlake Movement was an American nineteenth-century architectural and household design reform movement started by architect and writer Charles Eastlake (1836-1906). The movement is generally considered part of the late Victorian period in terms of broad antique furniture designations.
