This antique shaving mug and shaving brush holder is solid brass and in very good condition. This is found in a 1920 catalog from the Art Brass Company of New York and is described as "An actual necessity for men"! It did not come with a shaving mug or brush originally and nor does it have one now, we leave that to you to furnish those pieces. The name "San-o-La" is on the arm of this lovely and useful piece. The shaving brush clasp is bent however this is malleable brass so it should be able to be reshaped to accommodate a shaving brush.
The Art Brass Company was based in New York City in the early 1900"s. The company created beautiful solid brass bathroom fixtures that were nickel plated. The fixtures stand the test of time due to their solid brass casting. Their nickel plating was also much smoother, heavier, and "brighter" than other manufacturers of that time. The company had their items installed into hotels and Government buildings throughout the world. Later on the company was known as San-O-La. The company made every accessory that your early 20th century bathroom could require. There was an array of soap dishes, glass shelving, towel bars, cup holders, toilet paper holders, and robe hooks in their catalogs. Today the company is no longer in business. It is tough to determine an exact date when the company went under, but many suspect it is because of the Great Depression that this company no longer exists today.
